CMRC provides specialised intensive services to address the complex needs of humanitarian entrants and other eligible visa holders.

Humanitarian Settlement Services

CMRC provides free Specialised Intensive Services (SIS) that include complex case management. Short term support (up to six months) to assist humanitarian entrants and other eligible visa holders with complex needs, access services and develop skills to manage independently.

We provide tailored support through individualised case management to enhance self-reliance and achieve better settlement outcomes.

The program applies and promotes the following work practice principles:

  • Client centred approach to case management
  • Strength base practice that focusses on a person’s strengths & skills
  • Collaborating and complementary services


SIS eligibility

Subject to the approval of Department of Home Affairs, people holding one of the following visas may be eligible to receive SIS under the HSP

  • Refugee (subclass 200, 201, 203 and 204) visa
  • Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202) visa
  • Protection (subclass 866) visa
  • Temporary Protection (subclass 785), Temporary Humanitarian Stay (subclass 449), Temporary Humanitarian Concern (subclass 786) and Safe Haven Enterprise (subclass 790) visas
  • Australian Citizens are not eligible for SIS

Holders of these visas may be eligible for SIS up to five years after their arrival in Australia, or up to five years after the grant of their eligible onshore visa.

SIS can assist address needs and barriers that may include:

  • Disability
  • Health needs that are severe, critical, long term and/or unmanaged
  • Mental health issues
  • Homelessness or housing instability
  • Domestic and family violence
  • Child and youth welfare concerns
  • Family and/or relationship breakdown
  • Social isolation
  • Financial hardship
  • Legal issues

The Community Migrant Resource Centre delivers SIS in collaboration with Settlement Services International.

Emergency Support

CMRC delivers key emergency support services to CALD communities including:

  • Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) – assistance to pay electricity and gas bills
  • Referral for Emergency Food Assistance Program
  • Sydney Water Payment Assistance Scheme (PAS) – assistance to pay water bills
